Third-round notebook – Honda Classic
* Ben Crane made a hole-in-one on No. 5 on Saturday, using a 9-iron on the 162-yard hole. It was Crane’s second ace on the PGA Tour. He also had one in his second-round match at the 2006 World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship at LaCosta. It was also the eighth hole-in-one on the PGA Tour this year. Should Crane go on to win the Tournament, he would become the first player to make an ace and go on to win the event since Jim Furyk did so at the 2007 Canadian Open.* Third-round leader Y.E. Yang is bidding to become just the second South Korean-born player to capture a PGA Tour event. The only other player is seven-time winner K.J. Choi. He and Choi are the only South Korean players to win on the European Tour.
* Prior to today’s position after three rounds, Yang’s best standing after 54 holes was a T5 at the 2008 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am. He eventually finished T9 for his best showing on the PGA Tour.
* Surprisingly, Y.E. Yang has made just nine birdies through 54 holes, but most importantly, he has just two bogeys on his card and just one in his last 42 holes.

* Just one of the top six players on the leaderboard has won a PGA Tour event – John Rollins (currently one of three players T4). None of the top three players own a PGA Tour victory. Here are the top three players and their best finishes. Y.E. Yang (T9/2008 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro Am), Jeff Klauk (T11/2009 Buick Invitational) and Jeff Overton (T2/2007 Wyndham Championship).
* Jeff Klauk (currently T2), a two-time winner on the Nationwide Tour, is playing in just his eighth PGA Tour event and seventh this year. He has made the cut in all seven of his starts in 2009 with his best effort a T11 at the Buick Invitational. His father, Fred, served several years as the superintendent at the TPC Sawgrass, home of THE PLAYERS Championship, before retiring in 2008.
* There’s a familiar face lurking on the leaderboard. Mark Calcavecchia, a two-time winner of this event (1987, 1998), shot a 5-under-par 65 on Saturday and finds himself T7 heading into the final round, three behind Y.E. Yang. Calcavecchia had opened with a 4-over-par 74 and was T100 after the opening round. A year ago, Calcavecchia shared the 54-hole lead with Matt Jones and Luke Donald before closing with a 73 and finishing T4.
* Mark Calcavecchia and Charlie Wi shared honors for Saturday’s low round with each shooting a 5-under-par 65.
* The winner of the event earns 500 points in the FedExCup race, a season-long points competition offering $35 million in bonus money and culminating with the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedExCup. Geoff Ogilvy currently leads the race with 1,176 points, followed by Kenny Perry (739) and Dustin Johnson (716). Zach Johnson (694) and Nick Watney (655) round out the top five.
* So far in 2009, in 72-hole PGA Tour events, all five of the previous third-round leaders have gone on to win the event.
* Jupiter resident Brett Quigley, who is currently T4, is seeking his first win in 340 starts on the PGA Tour.
* Erik Compton, a two-time heart transplant recipient, is currently T37. He is playing in his 13th PGA Tour event. He is currently slated to play in next week's Puerto Rico Open presented by Banco Popular on a sponsor's exemption. Compton has spent most of his professional career playing on the Nationwide Tour where he has made 84 career starts with seven top-10 finishes. His best showing was a runner-up finish at the 2004 Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open.
* The most difficult hole after three rounds is No. 6 with an average score of 4.408 (+.408), while No. 3 is the easiest at 4.813 (-.187)
