Mark Brown captures the European Tour Shot of the Month award for February

VIRGINIA WATER, SURREY, England - New Zealand’s Mark Brown has won The European Tour Shot of the Month Award for February for his outstanding approach to the 15th green at the DLF Golf and Country Club in New Delhi on his way to victory in the Johnnie Walker Classic.

Brown was trailing third round leader, Taichiro Kiyota of Japan, by four strokes with nine holes to play but clawed his way back onto level terms with a burst of three birdies before arriving at the par four 15th.

He pushed his tee shot but, faced with a tricky approach from behind the trees, Brown lofted an aggressive recovery onto the green, leaving him with a tap in for a fourth successive birdie which secured a lead he would not relinquish.

The Shot of the Month Award caps a marvellous month for the New Zealander who, during an outstanding two-week spell in India, won for the first time on both The European Tour and the Asian Tour and subsequently captured The European Tour Golfer of the Month Award. The dual successes in the Johnnie Walker Classic and the previous week’s SAIL Open on the Asian Tour catapulted Brown from 322nd to 64th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Runner-up in the February Shot of the Month Award was India’s SSP Chowrasia for his chip-in for birdie on the third hole at Delhi Golf Club, a shot which kept his momentum going and helped him secure his maiden victory in the inaugural EMAAR-MGF Indian Masters.

Third place went to another shot by Brown, again in the final round of the Johnnie Walker Classic, with his fearless pitch over water to the penultimate hole at the DLF Golf and Country Club which cemented his victory.

The European Tour Shot of the Month Award is presented to the Tour Member for the shot judged to b the most outstanding played during each calendar month on The European Tour International Schedule. South African Richard Sterne won the January award and the winning shots from each month are entered for The European Tour Shot of the Year Award.
