United States Collegiate Championship field has top eight teams on Golfweek rankings

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - For two years the United States Collegiate Championship has strived to present the best experience in college golf, with caddies for every player and course conditions more typical of a PGA Tour event.

This year the tournament known as “the Masters of college golf” might also have the best field in regular-season college golf March 24-26 at The Golf Club of Georgia.

On this week’s Golfweek/Sagarin Team Rankings, the United States Collegiate Championship field has the top eight teams in the Top 10 and nine of the top 11, including defending champion Georgia (1), new USCC entry Charlotte (3) and NCAA champion Stanford (8).

Other USCC teams in the top 11 are Alabama (2), Oklahoma State (4), UCLA (5), Georgia Tech (6), Southern Cal (7), and Florida State (11).

According to the Golfweek/Sagarin Individual Rankings, the USCC field has the top six players, eight of the top nine, and 14 of the top 17.

Heading the rankings is Rickie Fowler of Oklahoma State (1), followed by Alabama’s Michael Thompson (2), Kevin Chappell of UCLA (3), Harris English of Georgia (4), Chesson Hadley of Georgia Tech (5) and Southern Cal’s Jamie Lovemark (6).

The USCC’s primary sponsors are Callaway Golf, Siemens, Cadillac, Textron Financial, Cisco and Aspen University. The event will be televised on Comcast Sports Southeast, which reaches 12 states and 5.8 million households, for the third straight year.

The Golf Club of Georgia’s Lakeside Course was named “Best New Private Course” in the nation by Golf Digest in 1991.
